Tom Hanks acknowledged that he was confused about Disney’s decision of replacing Tim Allen with Chris Evans for the “Lightyear” movie about Buzz Lightyear, Allen’s fictional character in “Toy Story”.
Actor at 65, he was asked “is it strange to be in theatres opposite a Buzz Lightyear movie” when his “Elvis” flick was also being shown.
“How about this? Actually, I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen, and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it,” he told CinemaBlend. “I don’t understand that.”
Hanks responded to questions regarding the studio’s decision not to hire Allen but Evans.

“Here’s the thing — just as long as people come back to the motion picture theater. I want to be able to return to the theatre with a group of strangers and have something in common. That’s what I want to do and, going to see a movie with him [Allen] — I’m looking forward to that.”
“Lightyear” just wrapped its third weekend at the Box Office and has now earned $107 million.
Allen, 60 years old, discussed the confusing recasting last week with Extra and said that the new Buzz Lightyear character was totally different from his original portrayal.
He said, “This is a new team that really didn’t have anything to do with the original movies.”
Allen was well-known for his voice acting of the astronaut doll character in 1995. He reprised this role in 2005. “Toy Story 2,” and “Toy Story 3”, respectively.In addition to many other projects.

TIM ALLEN REACTS TO ‘LIGHTYEAR’ STARRING CHRIS EVANS: ‘NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FIRST MOVIES’
The “Home Improvement” star was shocked when he learned that the new Disney film did not feature live-action characters like he was taught.
“The short answer is I’ve stayed out of this. … I thought it was a live-action. When they said they were doing it live-action, that’s what I thought to mean real humans and not an animated thing.”
Allen failed to see any connection to the original tale as “there’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz without Woody. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.”
He added: “So I’m not sure what the idea [is]… I’m a plot guy. If this was done in 1997, it would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see, it’s not a big adventure story. It’s a wonderful story. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy.

PATRICIA HEATON BLASTS DISNEY FOR NOT CASTING TIM ALLEN IN ‘LIGHTYEAR’ SPINOFF: ‘PIXAR MADE A HUGE MISTAKE’
Director Angus MacLane explained to Vanity Fair the differences between the characters and said that Allen’s version from the ’90s was “a bit goofier than the new adaptation.”
Buzz is the action hero of this film. Buzz is serious, ambitious, and funny. However, he doesn’t make the film seem silly or distract from the drama.
He added: “Chris Evans has the gravitas and that movie-star quality that our character needed to separate him and the movie from Tim’s version of the toy in ‘Toy Story.’”
“Toy Story 3”, one of the most anticipated sequels, was a huge success2010. The $1 billion global box office profit for the computer-animated movie, which also features the voices of Tom Hanks and Whoopi Goldberg.
“Toy Story 4” also made more than $1 billion in 2019, despite a $200 million budget.
Evans stated that he felt humbled to take on the role of the bigger-than-life character after having studied the films for many years.
Evans said last month that Tim Allen was Buzz Lightyear. “What he did to those movies is so iconic. I wouldn’t be a fool to not incorporate some of his choices in this role.

“The human version of the toy that is featured in this movie is the character in the movie. It makes sense to have some overlap, fortunately for me. “What Tim Allen did was untouchable.”
The film’s controversy began several months ago, when a same-sex kiss was reportedly taken out of the movie and then reinstated after backlash against Disney’s inaction over Florida’s. Bill “Don’t Say Gay”..
Florida House Bill 1557 (or “Parental Rights In Education”) prohibits teaching children about their sexual orientation and gender identity from kindergarten to third grade.

Evans responded to critics who say the film’s kissing scene between two female characters pushes a pro-gay agenda.
Evans told Reuters Television that the truth was that those people are stupid. “There will always be people who are scared and unaware, trying to hold onto what is before. But those people die off like dinosaurs. My goal is to ignore them, move forward, and embrace the human growth that makes us human.
“Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth, and that’s what makes us good,” Evans added.
