Two Uvalde officials have asked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott should remove Christina Busbee, District Attorney of Uvalde Together, from the oversight of the Uvalde Together Resiency Center. This center was established to support families affected by the Robb Elementary School shooting.
Abbott announced a $5 million initial investment in the fund on June 3, and Busbee was appointed to manage it.
Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin and state Sen. Roland Gutierrez, who represents Uvalde, wrote in a letter to Abbott on Tuesday that they have heard “numerous troubling reports” about the district attorney’s handling of the fund, including the “failure to timely deliver victim’s compensation resources to those in need.”
McLaughlin & Gutierrez wrote that one Uvalde family was at risk of losing power in their home while they were caring for their daughter in hospital. “Other families were offered a meager two-week bereavement benefit.”
UVALDE CITY COUNCIL MEETING GETS HEATED AS FAMILIES DEMAND ANSWERS: ‘YOU’RE IN CHARGE’
Local officials request that the Texas Department of Emergency Management takes over the fund.
Busbee also is investigating the shooting and said last week in rare public remarks that she had been meeting families of victims.
Busbee stated that the group is trying to ensure that the organization has the necessary resources. “Then I will tell them where my investigation is at, and these conversations have been ongoing.”

Fox News Digital’s Tuesday request for comments from Busbee was not immediately answered.
UVALDE SHOOTING: OFFICER WHOSE WIFE WAS SHOT WAS DISARMED AND ‘ESCORTED’ AWAY, TEXAS DPS CHIEF SAYS
The last six weeks have seen officials at both the state and local levels engage in a verbal war over how to respond to the shooting.
Steven McCraw, Texas Department of Public Safety Director, has placed the blame upon local police. He claimed that Pete Arredondo, Uvalde school chief of police put “the lives of officers above the lives of children.”

McLaughlin accused McCraw of avoiding responsibility for his agency’s actions. He claimed at a recent meeting of the city council that DPS director would “lie, leak and mislead” in order to discredit his troopers, rangers, and staff from the response.
State Senator Gutierrez also sued DPS over records related to the shooting. Gutierrez claimed that DPS’s response to the tragedy was full of misinformation, outright lies, and that it failed to adequately address the issue.
