The question is whether Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), newfound backing for a massive social expenditure and taxation bill raises the question of whether he will insist upon Republican input and support like he did with other high-profile legislation being pushed forward by Democrats.
Manchin stated last year that any legislation regarding voting rights, which Democrats claimed was “under attack” at that time, must have input and support by Republicans to be supported.
He eventually declined to support the For the People Act, Democrat-backed. He cited its lack of bipartisanship and slammed his fellow Democrats “partisan policymaking,” arguing that it would “destroy American Democracy.”
“The American democracy is founded on the right to vote. It should not be about politics or party. In a statement, he said that the protection of this right, which I believe in, should not be done in an partisan fashion.

“The truth is there is a better way — if we seek to find it together,” he later added.
All Republican senators are expected to vote against the Inflation Reduction Act. This is the official name for the reconciliation spending bill that was reached in a secret deal between Manchin, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Contrary to his earlier demands for bipartisanship Manchin’s seems ready to help the bill through the line without the help of Senate Republicans. The legislation will be approved by a simple majority. Vice President Kamala Harris was able break the 50-50 tie for the Democrats.
Fox News Digital reached Manchin’s office to get comment. A spokeswoman praised Manchin’s past efforts at bipartisanship but did not mention any desire for Republican input.
Samantha Runyon, communication director, said that Senator Manchin had worked for years in a bipartisan manner to ensure we produce more energy domestically and pay down our national debt.

The Senate will reconvene on Saturday to vote on the bill.
